On the upward path to holiness, the serious climber has to face a few lesser peaks before the final summit. One of these major peaks is humility. There's no getting around it.  If you want to get to the summit, the peak of humility has to be surmounted sooner or later.  This retreat will follow the general lines of St. Bernard's exposition on humility (and pride) as presented in Abbot Bernard Bonowitz's book:  The Three Course Banquet.  Be prepared to plunge spiritual depths, to be challenged, and to enjoy the author's great sense of humor.  This is one of those potential life-changing retreats!

Sr. Gertrude Gillette made her Solemn Profession as a Benedictine at St. Scholastica Priory, MA in 1984.  She received her Ph.D. in Patristics (1996), and her S.T.L. in Monastic Studies (2007), and taught at Ave Maria University, FL for 8 years (2003-2011).  During this period, she founded (along with the late Sr. Theresa Scheuren, OSB) a new Benedictine community, which eventually moved to NC where it resides today as the Benedictines of Mary, Queen of Peace in Rutherfordton NC.
